Art, Meditation & Mindfulness | 5/18

30.00 35.00

On Saturday May 18th, you are invited to join us at Susan Eley Fine Art as we explore mixed media artist Francie Hester’s new solo show, Suspending, and use it as a launching pad to explore the topics of meditation and mindfulness with Meditation Expert, Yuri Dhara.

First, Hester will take us on a private walk-through of the exhibit and while talking about how self-reflection, repetition and daily practice have informed her work.

Then, Dhara will give us a brief introduction to the history, science and benefits of meditation and teach us how to use its principles to transcend stress, anxiety, worry and suffering. She will show us how the practice of suspension (“moving away from the daily pace” as Hester calls it) can help us align with our higher purpose and happiness to live a more extraordinary life.

Together, these two wise women will teach us about the connection between art, meditation and mindfulness so that we may bring more of each into our lives. Don’t miss this chance to start your weekend with intention, connection and ART!

Coffee & croissants to be served.

More about Francie Hester:
”My work is a series of studies and reflections on how pattern emerges from random events, how random events form memory, and how the passage of time shapes a life. The work evokes the unknown or unknowable, and draws on the ordering principles of mathematics and science to contemplate how order and sequence are created from disconnected events.”

Hester has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. Her work is represented in numerous private and corporate collections including the World Bank, Freddie Mac, Capital One, KPMG, Covington & Burling and the International Monetary Fund. She has received honorary grants from the District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and from the Arts Council of Montgomery County, Maryland. Hester’s commissioned works include a 1996 piece for the Ginetta Sagan Fund of Amnesty International and an 18-foot atrium piece for the Chicago Kent College of Law.
